Re-evaluation is an examination used to evaluate a patient's response to either a completed conservative stage of treatment or a completed surgical stage of treatment. The doctor will measure the pocket depths and mobility of the teeth and compare the findings to the initial examination notes. This is essential to proper planning for the next phase of active treatment or initiation of a preventative maintenance program. Since a patient can only effectively clean pocket depths of 1-4mm. surgical intervention may be recommended to reduce the pockets to this level.
